Students who failed a course and need the credit in order to be promoted to the next grade level at the end of the year should consider taking a fifth period class. All students planning to enroll in a 5th period class this semester must see Mrs. Green in Student Services TODAY to pick up their class contracts. Contracts must be signed by students and their parents and must be returned to Mrs. Green no later than Tuesday, February 8.

Any 9th grader in Gaston County is eligible to apply. Acceptance is based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, self-motivation and an essay. -There will be a Concussion Forum Wednesday, February 9 @ 6:30 at NORTH GASTON. This is open to all parents, students, coaches, and the public. Several noted doctors will be speaking on the hot topic of concussions in sports. Light refreshments will be available.
-The COMMISSIONERS' SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE is a 2-week summer residential experience, held on the Belmont Abbey College campus from June 19-24 and June 26-July 1, 2011. Any 9th grader in Gaston County is eligible to apply. Acceptance is based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, self-motivation and an essay. See Mr. Bennett in guidance for an application and additional information. The application deadline is February 18, 2011.
-Attention REGIONAL SWIM TEAM: JACOB RICHARD, LYNDSAY RICHARD, HANNAH COVINGTON, SARAH COVINGTON, CARLY EMERSON, and SAM LUNGO: Please report to C106 after school TODAY for regional information.
-Any GIRL interested in playing SOFTBALL this year needs to attend a meeting in Coach Bakers room (B109) on Monday, February 7th after school. If you cannot attend please see Coach Baker individually prior to Monday.

-SOPHOMORES! It's time to order your CLASS RING! The Jostens representatives will be here on February 7th and 8th (Monday and Tuesday) during school lunch periods to take your class ring order. PARENT NIGHT has been set for Tuesday night, February 8th from 3:30-6:30 pm. This will be your opportunity to order your official high school class ring and have your parents come out with you for this special event. Also, any SENIOR or JUNIOR who has not ordered a ring, may do so at this time. Bring a $60 deposit.
-The Gaston County Police Department is currently taking applications for the 34th session of its Citizens' Police Academy. This Citizens' Police Academy will be presented in eight sessions on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Class dates for this session are February 26 thru April 16th. Participation in the academy is FREE and is open to high school juniors and seniors. For more information, please see Officer Shaw or contact the Gaston County Police Department at 704-866-3320.

Completing the FAFSA may qualify students for Pell Grants, Federal Work Study and low interest student loans. In addition, colleges and universities utilize information on the FAFSA in distributing their need-based financial aid. since tax documentation is necessary for completion of the FAFSA, it is extremely important for you to prepare federal tax forms as early as possible this year. Please check with your potential colleges and universities for filing deadlines. Also, please know that filing the FAFSA is on a first come basis, so do not delay. Applications are available online at www.fafsa.gov.
