-Sign ups for the HOSA/CBCC BLOOD DRIVE begin Monday, November 1st. If you would like to help save 3 lives, you are at least 16 years old and weigh at least 120 pounds you should donate blood. See a HOSA member on the stage in the cafeteria during lunch to sign up for an appointment.

-If you are planning to volunteer at the HOUSE OF MERCY through the INTERACT CLUB, go by Ms. Choren's or Ms. Crabtree's room TODAY or Monday, November 1, to pick up information regarding Orientation. Our Orientation Session will be at the House of Mercy at 4:00 on Monday afternoon (Nov 1).

-BASKETBALL TRYOUTS will begin Monday, November 1. FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORE BOYS will begin in the Auxilliary Gym at 3:15. Juniors and Seniors will begin at 5:15 in the main gym.

-All INVISIBLE CHILDREN'S CLUB members that missed the meeting on Wednesday need to go by Mrs. Henry's room before or after school in order to pick up your picture pass. You also need to turn in your change donations and pick up a new bag.

-Gaston County School District will be offering a series of SAT prep sessions from 8 am until noon on Saturdays prior to the SAT exam dates. If you are interested in attending these prep sessions, see Mr. Bennett in guidance in order to sign up. November 20 at Ashbrook. January 15 at Cherryville. March 5 at Forestview. April 16 at South Point. May 21 at East Gaston.

-The Forestview RADIO BROADCASTING CLUB will sponsor a Dance Remix Contest using creative Commons licensed music and samples. Contestants' tracks will be featured on a compilation CD. If you are interested in participating, please see Mr. Hill or send an email with your name to listen@jag1610.com. The contest will be limited to a maximum of 16 Forestview students.

-NO JV SOCCER GAME TODAY. VARSITY SOCCER AT 5:30!!!!!

-Attention students: Don't forget to bring money to put in your grade's United Way Fund. The grade that brings in the most money will have early dismissal for a week! As of today the Freshmen are winning, but not by much.

-The GERMAN CLUB will meet on Tuesday, October 26 after school in D130. On the program: depending on weather: competition on school grounds clean-up or chocolate tasting.

-There will be an INVISIBLE CHILDREN'S CLUB meeting on Wednesday, October 27, in Mrs. Henry's room at 3:00. All members should attend and need to bring the funds that they have collected during the first 2 weeks of Change for Change.

-Congratulations students!!!! We reached our goal for 2500 tickets and tomorrow we will have our 4th period celebration. All students who wear their TAILGATE T-SHIRTS tomorrow will be dismissed early to go to the stadium for the celebration. So buy those shirts! There will be no early dismissals after 1:30.

The program, which is open to RISING SENIORS only with exceptions made for rising JUNIORS in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two campuses: Salem College in Winston-Salem and at Meredith College in Raleigh. Selected students will stay on either of these campuses for 6 weeks and focus on a selected academic interest. Classes blend intellectual discussion with practical application of theory. Recreational and social activities are also offered. Students may pick up information and application packets from Mr. Bennett in the guidance office. Completed applications must be turned in by Friday, October 22.

-Don't forget that Tuesday, October 19 is Photo Make-up day for grades 9-11. Make-ups and retakes are for the following reasons: 1. ABSENT-For a package, students bring money and order information. 2. DEFECTIVE PHOTO OR EYES CLOSED-Get a new photo taken for yearbook or a new package if you paid for one, bring your old photos to the photographer and they will retake them. 3. STUDENT DID NOT LIKE THE PHOTO TAKEN-Bring your old photos to the photographers and $5 for retakes.

The program, which is open to RISING SENIORS only with exceptions made for rising JUNIORS in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two campuses: Salem College in Winston-Salem and at Meredith College in Raleigh. Selected students will stay on either of these campuses for 6 weeks and focus on a selected academic interest. Classes blend intellectual discussion with practical application of theory. Recreational and social activities are also offered. Students may pick up information and application packets from Mr. Bennett in the guidance office. Completed applications must be turned in by Friday, October 22.

-The 3rd annual Forestview TALENT SHOW is Saturday, October 16 at 7:00. We have 27 different acts and the cost is just $5.

-There will be an INVISIBLE CHILDREN'S CLUB meeting on Wednesday, October 13 in Mrs. Henry's room (D12) at 3:00. All members need to attend to discuss our first fundraiser. Anyone interested in joining are encouraged to attend.

-Men's Varsity Soccer players please meet in the cafeteria after school TODAY.

-Please help make our football game with Ashbrook the WBTV game of the week! Go to WBTV.com and click on the link for "game of the week." Vote for our game. WBTV will select the game with the most votes as its GAME OF THE WEEK for Friday October 22nd.

-Attention students who are signed up to take the PSAT on Wednesday of next week, October 13. Testing will take place on B HALL in specifically assigned rooms. Lists indicating where you will test have been posted on B HALL and in the commons area just outside of the cafeteria. Testing will begin immediately at the beginning of the day on Wednesday, October 13 and you will need to report directly to your assigned room for testing. Do not report to your first period class. Go directly to your testing room. You need to check these lists to determine what room you must report to in order to take the test.

-WRITING CLUB will meet TODAY, October 12 from 3:15-4:15. Bring your writing quotes and t-shirt ideas. Don't forget your notebook!

-The Gaston Gazette will begin its 6th year of the Gazette Tech Program. Session will include how technology is used in the media, sports, local companies, etc. If you're interested in learning more about technology, careers, and presentation skills, see Mr. Bennett in guidance for more information and being nominated for the program.

-WRESTLERS: OPEN MAT each Monday this month at 6:00

-The GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL OF NORTH CAROLINA is the oldest statewide summer residential program for students who have been identified as academically or intellectually gifted. The program, which is open to RISING SENIORS only with exceptions made for rising JUNIORS in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two campuses: Salem College in Winston-Salem and at Meredith College in Raleigh. Selected students will stay on either of these campuses for 6 weeks and focus on a selected academic interest. Classes blend intellectual discussion with practical application of theory. Recreational and social activities are also offered. Students may pick up information and application packets from Mr. Bennett in the guidance office. Completed applications must be turned in by Friday, October 22.

-Each year, the Catalyst Conference brings a selected group of 80 high school students from across North Carolina to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for a weekend-long exploration of social justice issues affecting both America and the larger world. Not only will participants be exposed to social justice issues, they will also have a chance to explore the Chapel Hill campus and learn more about the UNC academic experience. If you are interested in applying, see Dr. Bennett in guidance.

-November 2, 2010 is ELECTION DAY in North Carolina. Many of you can vote in this election as long as you register before the end of this month! If you are a citizen of the U.S. and you will be 18 before November 2, you can register to vote between now and Thursday, September 30. Head to the school library, fill out Voter Registration Application and place the form in the box by the end of the day Thursday. Maybe you can't vote in this upcoming election, but many of you are able to preregister to vote now. If you are currently 16 but will be 18 by the next general election in November 2012 and you are a citizen, you simply fill out the same form in order to preregister. You will be updated in the voter registration system on your 18th birthday!

- Attention 10th graders: Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, commonly known as HOBY, is one of the oldest and most prominent youth leadership organizations in the world. It is a youth leadership development organization designed to inspire change within your own community.
