Through seminars, problem-solving activities, simulations, field trips to visit community leaders, guest speakers, and "hands-on" experiences, students examine issues relevant to their future and the future of Gaston County. Any ninth grader in Gaston County is eligible to apply. Acceptance is based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, self-motivation and an essay. See Mr. Bennett in guidance for an application and additional information. The application deadline is February 25, 2010.

General Assembly, which affords high school students the opportunity to draft and present legislation, voice their opinions, and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government. -The North Carolina Youth Legislative Assembly is a mock legislative session patterned after N.C. General Assembly, which affords high school students the opportunity to draft and present legislation, voice their opinions, and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government. Application is open to 9-12 graders. If you are interested in learning more about government and the legislative process, see Mr. Bennett in guidance for more information. The deadline is February 19, 2010.

-Starting TODAY, Feb 5, the NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY will be pre-selling t-shirts to help the relief efforts in Haiti. All shirts will be $10 each with all proceeds going toward the Red Cross.
