Dear Parents,
This letter is to let you know that we have a number of students who have complained of flu-like symptoms.
Our school nurse is checking each child with flu like symptoms for fever. If a student has a fever (100.4) and/or flu-like symptoms, we will contact you to pick up your child and take the child to your family physician. For your information, we isolate any child who has fever or flu-like symptoms until the parent picks up the child.
We will keep you posted concerning this situation. The very best way to protect your family from seasonal flu and H1N1 flu or any other disease spread by human contact is to practice excellent personal hygiene. Local and state health officials recommend the following practices to prevent the spread of the flu:
-Keep your child home from school if he/she has fever (100.4) and is sick, and contact your health physician if the child exhibits flu-like symptoms.
-Remind children that the best defense is frequent hand washing (with soap or alcohol-based hand cleaner) and to avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with their hands. Germs spread that way.
-Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or doing so in the upper sleeve – and not your hands – is also essential.
-Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.
A brochure with information concerning seasonal flu and H1N1 flu along with a copy of this letter will be given to your child during their 4th period class today. Please help us with prevention by encouraging your child to use the above personal hygiene practices.
As always, we appreciate your support. If you have questions or concerns, please contact my office at (704) 861-2625.
