-The GASTON GAZETTE'S BEST AND BRIGHTEST 2009 awards program will honor one senior from each of the Greater Gaston area high schools who epitomize the community builders of their generation. These students are committed to their studies, but they are also making meaningful contributions to the betterment of their schools and communities through a myriad of activities. They have shown the ability to balance all the elements in their lives and in some cases have overcome enormous obstacles. Applications for this award can be accessed online or you can see Mr. Bennett in guidance for complete information. The completed application must be received by The Gaston Gazette by Tuesday, April 21 at 5:00 pm.

-JUNIORS: ERSKINE COLLEGE will be hosting their Junior Visitation Day on Saturday, April 4. This will be a great opportunity to visit the campus, learn information about their admission criteria and get important scholarship information. For more information contact Mrs. Neely in Student Services.

-Thursday, April 2: Students will be released at 12:00 noon. Bag lunches will be available to students in the cafeteria at 12:00.

-Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6 are SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS. Student will be out for spring break Tuesday, April 7 through Friday, April 10.

-JOSTENS will be here Thursday, April 16 during lunches to distribute Caps and Gowns.

-CINDERELLA CAST: New Calendars are available from Mrs. Alexander in room D137 now. Get them while they last!

-The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is offering a 15-hour program which covers the latest test-taking strategies and proven techniques for increasing SAT scores. The goal of the UNC Charlotte program is to build SAT test-taking confidence and to assist students in reaching their full potential. Instructors will cover each math, verbal, and essay sections of the SAT and will use practice tests. Participants will receive practical experience solving math and verbal problems. The cost is $245 per program and enrollment is limited. For further information, see Mr. Bennett in the guidance office.

-Once again we will have a Forestview RELAY FOR LIFE t-shirt designed by one of our art students. Honor a cancer survivor or remember someone who died from cancer by putting their name on the back of the shirt. Each name is $5.00. See Ms. Griffin in B120 to add the names of your loved ones and friends to the shirt. All proceeds go to RELAY FOR LIFE. Your contributions help to fund research to find cures for the various forms of cancer.

-Applications are being accepted for the 2009 session of the AMERICAN LEGION TAR HEEL BOYS' STATE which will be held June 21-27 at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Tar Heel Boys' State is a leadership program of ACTION where participants learn today to lead tomorrow. It is highly intense in nature and teaches in a practical way the principals of good government at the city, county and state levels. Only males who have completed their junior year of high school are considered eligible to participate. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in guidance. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 3.

-APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY is offering its 4th FORENSIC SCIENCE CAMP this summer: June 24-27 and June 15-18. This camp is for those students with a strong background in science who are interested in pursuing a career as a forensic analyst or who are just curious about the field. See Mr. Bennett in guidance for more info.

-Anyone who would like to become a STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINER should sign up in the Training Room or see Jarrett for more information.

-Students, please park in your assigned spaces. If you park in someone's space you will receive a warning!

Also, if you are absent please bring a note within 2 days of returning to school. This can be from a doctor, parents, or other agency that states the reason for you not being in attendance at school. This note will determine if your absence is excused or unexcused. Finally, remember prom and athletics uses attendance as one of the variables to determine eligibility.

-Make plans to attend Forestview's Theatre Production of "CINDERELLA" which will be on Friday night, May 8 (7:30), and two performances on Saturday, May 9 (2:00 & 7:30).

The event is taking place in first period on Thursday, March 19, in the auditorium. First period teachers have been informed. -Forestview Students: Don't forget our basketball fan bus will be available for this Saturday's Western Regional Finals. Come and support Jaguar Basketball in Greensboro. To secure your seat on the bus students must turn in permission forms to front office. Students must have $5 for the bus and $8 for the game ticket. Students please be reminded that you will need spending money on Saturday for food and other expenses. The bus will leave from the Forestview student parking are at 10:30 am this Saturday. Boys will play at 2:00 and the Girls will play at 6:00.

The Martha Guy Institute for Future Business Leaders runs from July 12-August 1 and is an opportunity to explore the business world through on-campus activities as well as travel to Washington DC and New York City. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in Guidance. The deadline to apply is March 5.

-Attention 11th GRADE STUDENTS who are interested in the field of BUSINESS LEADERSHIP and would like to attend a summer institute at APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY. The Martha Guy Institute for Future Business Leaders runs from July 12-August 1 and is an opportunity to explore the business world through on-campus activities as well as travel to Washington DC and New York City.
