-CHARACTER EDUCATION TRAIT FOR MARCH: PERSEVERANCE
-CHARACTER EDUCATION TRAIT FOR APRIL: SELF DISCIPLINE
-The GASTON GAZETTE'S BEST AND BRIGHTEST 2009 awards program will honor one senior from each of the Greater Gaston area high schools who epitomize the community builders of their generation. These students are committed to their studies, but they are also making meaningful contributions to the betterment of their schools and communities through a myriad of activities. They have shown the ability to balance all the elements in their lives and in some cases have overcome enormous obstacles. Applications for this award can be accessed online or you can see Mr. Bennett in guidance for complete information. The completed application must be received by The Gaston Gazette by Tuesday, April 21 at 5:00 pm.
-JUNIORS: ERSKINE COLLEGE will be hosting their Junior Visitation Day on Saturday, April 4. This will be a great opportunity to visit the campus, learn information about their admission criteria and get important scholarship information. For more information contact Mrs. Neely in Student Services.

-The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is offering a 15-hour program which covers the latest test-taking strategies and proven techniques for increasing SAT scores. The goal of the UNC Charlotte program is to build SAT test-taking confidence and to assist students in reaching their full potential. Instructors will cover each math, verbal, and essay sections of the SAT and will use practice tests. Participants will receive practical experience solving math and verbal problems. The cost is $245 per program and enrollment is limited. For further information, see Mr. Bennett in the guidance office.
-Once again we will have a Forestview RELAY FOR LIFE t-shirt designed by one of our art students. Honor a cancer survivor or remember someone who died from cancer by putting their name on the back of the shirt. Each name is $5.00. See Ms. Griffin in B120 to add the names of your loved ones and friends to the shirt. All proceeds go to RELAY FOR LIFE. Your contributions help to fund research to find cures for the various forms of cancer.

Tar Heel Boys' State is a leadership program of ACTION where participants learn today to lead tomorrow. Only males who have completed their junior year of high school are considered eligible to participate. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in guidance. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 3.

This camp is for those students with a strong background in science who are interested in pursuing a career as a forensic analyst or who are just curious about the field. It is highly intense in nature and teaches in a practical way the principals of good government at the city, county and state levels. Only males who have completed their junior year of high school are considered eligible to participate. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in guidance. -We would like to congratulate NICOLE WARD for winning the Emily B. Andrews Scholarship. Nicole was one of two students in the county to win this award. Congratulations on a job well done.
-SENIORS: If you have won scholarship money, we would like to make sure that you are recognized for your achievement during our annual awards ceremony. Please make sure that you provide Mr. Collins with a copy of your scholarship award letter.
-If you are planning to take an AP EXAM this year, you need to pay your deposit of $13 per exam by Friday, March 20. -CHARACTER EDUCATION TRAIT FOR MARCH: PERSEVERANCE
-PARENTS: Parent Teacher Conference forms were handed out to students during 4th period yesterday, Wednesday March 4. If you did not receive a form we have extra copies in the front office. If you wish to have a conference with your student's teachers please fill out the form and your student will take it to each teacher so that they can put a time for you to meet them.
-FCCLA will be having a brief meeting after school on Thursday in Mrs. Little's room (D102). It is very important for all members to attend this meeting if they are planning in competing in the state competition.
-HIGH Q will begin meeting Monday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 11. All meetings will be after school in Mr. Potter's room (B118)
-"The BIG GIVE" Academy Challenge has been extended to Friday, March 6. Bring in new or slightly used clothing and nonperishable food items. The winning academy will have their name posted around the school and will be featured on GCS channel 21. Watch the school news 2nd period for a commercial produced by the TV Broadcasting class.
-The 10th GRADE STATE WRITING TEST WILL BE TUESDAY, MARCH 10TH. Writing scores will be on student transcripts. Writing Review Sessions: Slentz classes from 1st semester should come to review today and tomorrow; 2nd semester students should come to at least one review session in B103. Thomas classes from 1st semester should report for review today and tomorrow; 2nd semester students will review Friday and Monday.
-NO SPRING SPORTS PICTURES rescheduled for March 12. Coach Stewart will email coaches a schedule.
-Students please be mindful of the Gaston County School Attendance Policy. A student can miss no more than 10 days within a semester without violating the attendance policy. Also, if you are absent please bring a note within 2 days of returning to school. This can be from a doctor, parents, or other agency that states the reason for you not being in attendance at school. The Martha Guy Institute for Future Business Leaders runs from July 12-August 1 and is an opportunity to explore the business world through on-campus activities as well as travel to Washington DC and New York City. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in Guidance. The deadline to apply is March 5.
