These students are committed to their studies, but they are also making meaningful contributions to the betterment of their schools and communities through a myriad of activities. They have shown the ability to balance all the elements in their lives and in some cases have overcome enormous obstacles. Who Can Apply? Seniors who have at least a 3.0 gpa. Selection Process: Honorees will be chosen by a committee of educators, community leaders and business people based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, essay, and letters of recommendation. Recognition: Winners will be featured in The Gaston Gazette. They also will be honored at a reception and will receive a plaque and a cash award of $100. To Apply: The application package must be received by The Gaston Gazette by 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2008. See Mr. Bennett in Guidance for more information and forms before April 4.

-Gaston College is hosting an Open House for area high school students on Saturday, April 26, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on the Dallas Campus. Registration will begin at 9:30 am and the opening will begin at 10:00 in the Myers Center Auditorium. Guided and unguided tours of the campus will be available. They will have demonstrations such as Welding, Automotive, Nursing, Cosmetology, Vet Tech, EMS, Fire/Rescue Training, Massage Therapy, Latent Evidence, and many more. Students registering for the fall semester will be eligible to register for a laptop and tuition certificates. See Mrs. Weaver in Student Services for more information.

-LITERARY APPRECIATION CLUB will meet this afternoon at 3:31 pm at Clay Cafe. It is very important that all members be in attendance as we are going to discuss our plans for the Relay for Life, as well as our normal book discussion.
-The Gaston Gazette's Best and Brightest 2008 awards program will honor one senior from each of the Greater Gaston area high schools who epitomize the community builders of their generation. These students are committed to their studies, but they are also making meaningful contributions to the betterment of their schools and communities through a myriad of activities. They have shown the ability to balance all the elements in their lives and in some cases have overcome enormous obstacles. Who Can Apply? Seniors who have at least a 3.0 gpa. Selection Process: Honorees will be chosen by a committee of educators, community leaders and business people based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, essay, and letters of recommendation. Recognition: Winners will be featured in The Gaston Gazette. They also will be honored at a reception and will receive a plaque and a cash award of $100. Registration will begin at 9:30 am and the opening will begin at 10:00 in the Myers Center Auditorium. Guided and unguided tours of the campus will be available. They will have demonstrations such as Welding, Automotive, Nursing, Cosmetology, Vet Tech, EMS, Fire/Rescue Training, Massage Therapy, Latent Evidence, and many more. Students registering for the fall semester will be eligible to register for a laptop and tuition certificates. See Mrs. Weaver in Student Services for more information.

The Gaston Gazette's Best and Brightest 2008 awards program will honor one senior from each of the Greater Gaston area high schools who epitomize the community builders of their generation. These students are committed to their studies, but they are also making meaningful contributions to the betterment of their schools and communities through a myriad of activities. They have shown the ability to balance all the elements in their lives and in some cases have overcome enormous obstacles. Who Can Apply? Seniors who have at least a 3.0 gpa. They will have demonstrations such as Welding, Automotive, Nursing, Cosmetology, Vet Tech, EMS, Fire/Rescue Training, Massage Therapy, Latent Evidence, and many more. Students registering for the fall semester will be eligible to register for a laptop and tuition certificates. See Mrs. Weaver in Student Services for more information.

-The BIG SOUTH recently released its winter award winners. Forestview had 20 all-conference performers from the 5 winter teams. Coach Beaty and Coach Strothmann won Coach of the Year awards. Jessica Capers won Player of the Year in BASKETBALL and Ross Alvey won Swimmer of the Year. Congratulations to all! Also, Jessica Capers has been selected to play in the NC Girls All Star Basketball game this summer!
-Dawn Hall, the American Red Cross and HOSA thank all students and teachers that donated blood for Friday's Blood Drive. 119 people presented to donate, 90 people were 1st time donors and 112 productive units were collected.
-Congratulations to our Chorus Members! Our Women's Ensemble and the Advanced Chorus received all Superior ratings at the Regional Choral Festival on Friday. One judge commented that this was the "best High School Women's group" that she had heard in years! Congratulations Chorus members!
-The Gaston Music Education Foundation will present a recital this evening at the First United Methodist Church. The recital features students who have been awarded camp and college scholarships. Forestview students have been awarded two of the three college scholarships. They are Amy Burch and Brad Boaz. The performance begins at 7:30 this evening at the First United Methodist Church. The event is open to the public with free admission.
-Thursday, March 20, is the last day to order a Forestview Relay for Life t-shirt or Honor someone by putting their name on the back of the shirt. Please see Mr. Potter or Ms. Griffin or members of INTERACT and KEY CLUB to place your order. These shirts are perfect to wear to support family members and friends who have had or have cancer. Several Forestview teachers are cancer survivors and your purchase of a shirt ensures more research and more survivors. Forestview thanks you for your participation in this worthy cause.
-Gaston College is hosting an Open House for area high school students on Saturday, April 26, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon on the Dallas Campus. Registration will begin at 9:30 am and the opening will begin at 10:00 in the Myers Center Auditorium. Guided and unguided tours of the campus will be available. They will have demonstrations such as Welding, Automotive, Nursing, Cosmetology, Vet Tech, EMS, Fire/Rescue Training, Massage Therapy, Latent Evidence, and many more. Students registering for the fall semester will be eligible to register for a laptop and tuition certificates. See Mrs. Weaver in Student Services for more information.

-Applications are being accepted for the 2008 session of the AMERICAN LEGION TAR HEEL BOYS' STATE which will be held June 22-28, 2008 at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Tar Heel Boys' State is a leadership program of ACTION where participants learn today to lead tomorrow. It is highly intense in nature and teaches in a practical way the principles of good government at the city, county and state levels. Only MALES who have completed their junior year of high school are considered eligible to participate. For more information, see Mr. Bennett in the guidance office.

-Students interested in attending a military academy can attend the North Carolina Service Academy Day in Charlotte on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The event will include presentations by representatives of the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point), U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis). -Applications are being accepted for the 2008 session of the AMERICAN LEGION TAR HEEL BOYS' STATE which will be held June 22-28, 2008 at Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Tar Heel Boys' State is a leadership program of ACTION where participants learn today to lead tomorrow. It is highly intense in nature and teaches in a practical way the principles of good government at the city, county and state levels. -5th ANNUAL FREE SPORTS PHYSICAL DAY is Saturday, April 26 from 8:00 am to 11:30 am at Orthodpaedic Specialists of Gastonia at 934 Cox Road in Gastonia.
-Forestview will present Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 at 7:30 pm and also on Sunday, April 20 at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The Music Man is performed by Forestview students, featuring Brad Boaz as the "Music Man" and Emily Anderson as "Marian Paroo."
-ATTENTION PARENTS: From March 1st until March 31st HARRIS TEETER will donate 1% of the purchase dollars for every customer who is linked to your school and uses their VIC card to purchase any FROZEN FOOD DEPARTMENT ITEM. There is no limit to what you can earn. Customers who are linked to more than one school will have their purchase dollars divided evenly between their schools. -Have you ordered or paid for your yearbook yet? Students may order and purchase a plain yearbook from Mrs. Slentz in B103 during 4th or after school, or online from jostensyearbooks.com. Jostens has extended the deadline for a plain book until April 17th. Don't wait until the end of the year; there may not be any extras. Yearbooks are $70.00
-Students interested in attending a military academy can attend the North Carolina Service Academy Day in Charlotte on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The event will include presentations by representatives of the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point), U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis). Congressional offices, Cadets, and Midshipmen from the academies will also be present. Students, families, school counselors, athletic directors and educators are all welcome. Location: Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center, Council/Commission Chambers, 600 East 4th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Begins promptly at 10:00 am.
